📍 CQ Noodle | Edmonton This restaurant makes their own noodles and dumplings! 🍜🥟 The name stands for “Chongqing Noodle” which is what they specialize in. Chongqing is a city in China that’s known for spicy food. You’re able to choose the spice levels here for your noodles. I tried the braised beef noodle soup which is their most popular item. My spice tolerance is quite low so I didn’t get any spice but the broth left my mouth with a tingly feeling. There were a ton of noodles and it felt neverending as I ate. The noodles were perfectly cooked and handmade by the restaurant. The braised beef was tender. My friend had the lowest spice level and said it was also tingly with some flavour. Recipe for mutton biryani ✨ Ingredients: Garlic and ginger paste 500g mutton Shan mutton masala 1 tbsp salt 1 tbsp coriander powder 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp chilli flakes 1 tbsp kasuri methi 2 tomatoes paste 2 tbsp yogurt 1 onion 5 boiled potatoes 4 cups rice. Directions: Add two tablespoons of oil and add ginger garlic paste and stir that for 3 minutes. Add 500 g of mutton and Shan mutton biryani and all the spices. Stir on high flame and add tomatoes paste, yogurt and pressure cook 10 minutes. Then add fry onions and boiled potatoes and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes. Boil 4 cups of rice. Drain the water from rice. Take a bigger pot and layer half rice followed by the mutton and add another layer of rice. Add coriander and drizzle yellow food colour Cover and turn the flame to the lowest. Cook for 10 minutes until fully cooked. Using a flat spoon or spatula gently toss the rice but don't mix vigoursly. Serves: 2-4 Prep time: 12 minutes Special tools: food processor Ingredients: 3 tablespoons raw pistachios 1/2 cup Asiago 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 small bulb fennel, sliced thin 1 Granny Smith apple, sliced thin 1 lemon, juice and zest. 1/4 cup fresh flat parsley 1 kosher salt tt 4 twists black pepper 1 splash EVOO, garnish 1/4 cup fennel fronds 12 pecorino, slices Method: 1. Blend the pistachio until smooth. Add Asiago and olive oil and blend until smooth. 2. Toss in a large bowl with apple and fennel. Season and adjust with lemon, salt and pepper. 3. 📍 Dutch Oven Kitchen | Spruce Grove This place is worth the drive from Edmonton! 🚗 It’s located in Spruce Grove. They only offer take out and delivery so I picked up lunch when I was in the area recently. Their menu has comfort food like sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. It might not sound like anything special at first glance but the food here was so good. There’s also a small selection of Dutch items. I had the brisket sandwich which was stuffed with meat. It was quite saucy and did get messy — wouldn’t recommend eating this in your car unless you have a lot of napkins. I also got the warm potato salad. If you know me, you know I love this from Earls but it tasted better and homemade here. There was a smoky flavour to it which reminded me of a BBQ in the summer. If you’re in Spruce Grove, I recommend trying out this place. I ordered online when I was leaving Edmonton so my food was ready upon pickup.
