While Cardinal Timothy Dolan was not surprised by the outcome of the papal conclave that selected Pope Leo XIV, he was initially surprised at the interest in then-Cardinal Robert Prevost by his fellow brother cardinals. "We really didn't consider him a cardinal from the United States," Dolan said on #TODAYShow, citing the Pope's years spent living in Peru and Vatican City, adding, "Heck, when I was with (TODAY Show) before the conclave, and you were asking me about the American cardinals, we didn't mention him, remember?" Pope Leo XIV is the first pope in the Roman Catholic Church's history to be born in the United States.
