I think two things can be true. It’s not wrong to expect adults to have some compassion and to self regulate when they’re annoyed over children showing challenging behaviors in public. It’s also a fair expectation that as a parent, you remain present and at least make an attempt to redirect disruptive behaviors when sharing space with others. It’s case by case for me.

Stop telling Black folk that we’re next as if we ever stopped being targets. We told the world what was going to happen and they didn’t listen. Some still believe that the tighter the style, the better it is for hair growth 🙄 It’s not that wild to argue that some stylists just aren’t using enough care or proper techniques when styling hair - especially if their client is a tender head 👍🏾

You know where to start, you just don’t want to start

*A letter from one curly girl to another* I’m not saying you can’t acknowledge the struggle you are having with your hair or that you can’t prefer definition over volume. But part of your hair journey is going to require you to accept that your hair isn’t meant to do certain things. When you learn to accept that, you’ll learn ways to work around that. Some of you will find a fix for your puffy roots. That’s fine as long as you’re still prioritizing your health. For some of you, you’ll be like me. I prefered defined curls but it looked off when the roots were a completely different texture - as in they do not hold a curl at all. So I had to ask myself if it was worth the stress of fighting with my roots, or if I should sacrifice some of the definition of the ends so that the overall look made sense. I didn’t just wear my frizz out one day and boom, I was in love with my hair. It took YEARS of being uncomfortable and asking why I had a problem with it. It took me challenging Euro beauty standards and unpacking my texturism as well as simply being uncomfortable. Self love is an active effort. At the end of the day I want you guys to feel confident with your roots. I want you to love them in their various stages. But think long and hard about if the lengths you’re willing to go to achieving a certain look is worth the years of correction you may need in the future ❤️❤️❤️
